My original post (below) was rather hasty and harsh. I've been using Otter.ai for a few weeks now...
Every Superhero Needs a Sidekick
This week's post is not strictly speaking an AI tool, although there is some AI working in the. background. It's just a quick intro to an interesting and helpful new web browser, Sidekick (https://www.meetsidekick.com/).
Have you noticed recently how many tabs you have open at one time?! Ever get lost and wonder which tab contains the document you were working on? Ever drag tabs next to each other when you need to look at one to work on another? Ever get distracted by a tab that has nothing to do with what you need to be working on? These are problems familiar to all of us. Problems Sidekick looks to solve.
By replacing Google, Safari etc. with Sidekick you retain access to everything you had before but now organized into discrete "Sessions". There may be 4 or 5 tabs you consistently need to use when working on a specific project, but that's better than having dozens of tabs for many many projects opened over time.
Additionally, you can put specific "apps" in the sidebar so that, regardless of your open tabs, you have instant access to your most-used tools.
Above, you can see my Sessions in a black block to the left. I have the "General" tab open which does two things: 1) Opens only the tabs for that session, 2) Shows me the apps associated with that session. The idea is to keep you focused on the task at hand -- only those inputs needed.
So here some of the apps are default, like Slack, Telegram and Skype, to which I added Discord, Google Calendar, Google Drive and Hubspot. The tabs include some AI pages I was reviewing, a Slide presentation, email and my calendar. If I click on the OMNI Session (my LLC) all of the apps and tabs changed to just those relevant to that session etc.
It took me about 48 hours to get used to it and not get confused that Google wasn't my starting point for everything. But a few days in, I'm hooked -- love the focus, the organization. Worth a try.
