Video Creation with AI

In this week's review I take a look at some of the AI-powered video creation tools out there. Each is a slightly different type of video tool and represents a long list of similar tools for video editing and short-form video content creation.  The tools I tested are Vidyo, Vidiofy and Nova.

Of the three, Nova (https://app.wearenova.ai/) is the purest editing platform.  It uses a very simple user interface to allow for quick and easy splicing of footage both uploaded and stock.  The power of the AI is applied to the UI and the various add-on elements. It enables easy development of professional-looking videos of any length.  I really love this platform - so easy to drag and drop footage, shorten, move etc. And it comes with a set of powerful tools for audio, subtitles, text, filters and the catch-all "Elements".

Audio can be added via recording, upload, or even text-to-speech, and Filters allows for various color treatments.  The Elements layer include logos, special call-out images, emojis, shapes, and devices such as a laptop or phone surround. The system is smart, easy and covers most of the basic elements of video development.

Vidyo (https://app.vidyo.ai/), which seams to have been adopted more widely, is a similar platform but, for me, an inferior interface. Rather than handling the the cutting and enhancing of footage visually, Vidyo asks you to specify time windows (e.g. "from 0:0:20:057 to 0:0:24:00) which makes for a more laborious and trial-and-error approach.  It has many of the same add-ons like typography, emojis etc. but just handles this in a slightly clunky way.

Last but not least is Videofy (https://www.vidiofy.ai/). If you're looking to make simple, image-based short videos for social media, this is probably your best option.  It defaults to a portrait format which is the clue to the type of mobile-friendly, quick videos in which it specializes.  I used Videofy for my Holiday Season greeting last month, and really liked it. I uploaded a set of MidJourney-created images, typed in my holiday message and let Videofy do the rest.  I added a track from a decent collection of themed music, and was done in 30 minutes or so.

AI is certainly making video creation accessible to all and has an immediate application for content creation in marketing.
